Nagoya University provides individual consultations regarding the method and the deadlines for submitting the application forms of tuition exemption for students who have difficulty in making payment of tuition due to financial reasons, cannot come to Japan due to COVID-19. Please contact the faculty or graduate school counter which you belong to.

Admission Fee Exemption System

?

There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying Admission fee due to a financial reason.

Your admission fee can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments are considered on the basis of our standards.

Postponement of Collection of your admission fee means that the deadline of collection is postponed. However, it is required to pay the same full amount of admission fee.

Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption System

There are differences between Undergraduate enrolled students and Graduate enrolled students. Applicants must meet any of the following conditions.

Undergraduate enrolled students
【Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption Application】
  • Within one year before a student enters the university, ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee.

  • When there are multiple circumstances such as ① the person who bears school expenses got? unemployed,② household receiving public assistance, ③ single parent household, ④ the person who bears school expenses is under long-term medical treatment, or ⑤ the person who bears school expenses has physical disabilities are recognized within one year before entering the university.

【Students eligible for Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application】
  • When there is any circumstances such as ① the person who bears school expenses got unemployed, ② household receiving public assistance, ③ single parent household, ④ the person who bears school expenses is under long-term medical treatment, ⑤ the person who bears school expenses has physical disabilities, or ⑥ financial reason is recognized within one year before entering the university.

  • A student who has difficulty in paying the admission fee because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.

?

  • Under other circumstances correspond the foregoing, it possible to eligible when the president of Nagoya University considers it to be applicable.

Graduate enrolled students

Students eligible for Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of Admission Fee Application

  • A student who has difficulty in paying the admission fee because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.

?

  • Within one year before a student enters the university, ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their admission fee.

?

  • Under other circumstances correspond the foregoing, it possible to eligible when the president of Nagoya University considers it to be applicable.

?

  • Due to the direct or indirect effects of the spread of the coronavirus, the income of the household budget supporter has decreased, it meets our standards of tuition exemption and the applicant is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.

★ Put a check in "Sudden Change of Household Finances due to COVID-19" in attachment Form1, Admission Fee Exemption and postponement of collection of your Admission Fee and submit the documents showing that the income after the sudden change (June-August 2020) is less than half of the income before the sudden change (for 3 months).

Amount of Admission Fee Exemption

Full amount or half amount of admission fee that is supposed to be paid is exempted. In the case of recipients in graduate schools, they were exempted half amount of admission fee latest few years.

Procedure of application 

We inform you of the distribution period and the acceptance period of "Guide of Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of your admission fee Application" along with the admission procedure.

Prepare the necessary documents according to "Guide of Admission Fee Exemption and Postponement of Collection of your admission fee Application".

Application Result 

Standard schedule of notification of application result

1. Enrolled students for spring semester: In beginning of July

2. Enrolled students for fall semester: In beginning of December

First-year undergraduate students will be handed over the result of application by the Student Support Division, and second-year or higher undergraduate students and graduate students will be handed over at the counter of the undergraduate/graduate school where they enrolled.

Payment deadline for half-exemption / non-approval / Postponement of Collection of admission fee

1. Pay within 20 days including the notification day of application result.

2. When postponement of the collection is approved, enrolled students for spring semester pay it by the end of September, enrolled students for fall semester pay it by the end of February.

  • Admission fee is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Admission Fee Exemption or Postponement of Collection of your admission fee is approved.
  • Applicants (students) are asked about the financial situation of their family and so forth.
  • Students are expelled if they do not pay admission fee on or before the deadline, excluding the case where they are permitted full exemption.

Tuition Fee Exemption System

There is an exemption system for students who have difficulty in paying tuition fees due to a financial reason.

Your tuition can be exempted within the limit of our budget. Eligibility for application, financial situation of your family, and scholastic attainments are considered on the basis of our standards.

Students eligible for Tuition Fee Exemption Application

Undergraduate students and graduate students (regular students) who have difficulty in paying tuition fees and fall under any of the following are eligible to receive Tuition Fee Exemption based on the selection.

  • A student who has difficulty in paying the tuition because of a financial reason is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.

  • Within six months before a semester starts (in regard to a new student, within one year before a student enters the university), ① the person who bears school expenses (example: father) has died, or ② the person who bears school expenses or the applicant has suffered damage from a storm and/or a flood and therefore has extreme difficulty in paying their tuition.

?

  • Due to the direct or indirect effects of the spread of the coronavirus, the household income has decreased, it meets our standards of tuition exemption and the applicant is recognized as an excellent academic achiever.

?

Procedure of application

About Tuition Fee Exemption

For those who apply for both the Spring semester-only Application and the Fall semester-only Application, apply for the "Simultaneous Application" once a year.

?

  • Note that students who meet the following will be accepted to apply for the Fall semester-only Application another time.

① A student who returns to the University or enters the University in October
② A student who has undergone a sudden change in financial situation after the application period has closed.
?

  • Students planning a leave of absence during the fall semester may apply for the Spring semester-only Application.

?

  • Under the new system, applications will be accepted once a year but will continue to be selected twice a year for the fall and spring semesters with separate results.

?

For those who apply for the Sudden Change of Household Finances due to COVID-19, the application is required for each semester: the Spring semester-only Application and the Fall semester-only Application.

We inform you of the distribution period and the acceptance period of "Guide of Tuition Fee Exemption Application" by bulletin boards. (New students will be informed along with the admission procedure.) It is not acceptable to apply outside of the period unless there is a special reason.

The result of the application will be announced on NU Portal. Please check it after notification of application result.

  • Tuition is not refunded if it is paid before your application for Tuition Fee Exemption is approved.
  • Applicants (students) are asked about the financial situation of their family and so forth.
  • If students were subjected to disciplinary action or there were false facts in the contents of the application documents, even after the exemption decision, the exemption permit will be revoked for that period.
